Optimize Your Night Routine After You’ve Owned Your Day

night routine

There are a lot of things that can make up your night routine to after a long day at work.

TV. Video games. Drinks with friends. Beer league softball. Blogging about lifestyle design and success (oh wait, that’s just me :)), and of course spending time with the family, all of which we have our pick of at the end of the day.

But it’s the driven, the motivated, the folks with a dream like you and me, that know that while these things are super important to our level of relaxation and enjoyment, if we want to live the lifestyle we want to live, there are plenty of other things to get done in our night routine as well.

I’m not saying that you should never socialize or do the things that help you relax and ultimately make you happy – quite the contrary – but if you’re someone who defines success through achievement, who has a desire to build something awesome, who wants to contribute positively to the world, you’re going to have to get more done than the average person.

And that means optimizing every spare minute you have.

The Importance of Your Night Routine

This is especially the case if you’re building your empire while working a day job. Often times your night routine is the only free time you’ll have during the week to get things done, so you must learn to make the most of it.

Everyone’s schedule is different, so I can’t tell you exactly when you’re going to have free time, but I can tell you that if something is important enough to you, you’ll make time.

Even if it’s just an hour at a time for a few nights a week, set aside that time to chip away at your goal. Progress every day. Take baby steps and continue to strive forward. You don’t have to do it all at once. Just keep your vision at the front of your mind and continue to get things done.

It’s this kind of mindset that you must have to achieve your goals. Don’t work yourself to death, but always know that free time can be used to achieve great things.

Recognize when you have time you can set aside. Get as much done as you can in that time, and make sure you’re making time for the important things in your life along the way as well.

That’s true success – achievement with enjoyment. Optimize your night routine and you’ll have a much better shot at it.

What does your night routine look like? What tasks do you work in to make sure you’re getting done what you need to?

  1. Absolutely true. Reading is a huge part of my night time routine. It’s great to absorb knowledge just before bed. It allows your mind to soak it up a lot easier than if you introduce many other thoughts throughout the day. I probably don’t have to tell you that nighttime reading can help you sleep a lot better too!

  2. This is good food for thought. I tend to read at night quite a bit and I keep a notebook at my bed side for jotting down notes. Sometimes those thoughts are a little out there. I’ve read that writing nearer to the “dream world” allows you to sometimes tap into your subconscious a bit more easily and I think that’s true.

My nighttime reading is very productive because there are so few distractions. No one expects anything from you when its time to wind down and go to bed. If you plan, then you can use that time to get some serious thinking time in.
